Denver & Notre Dame in 2019 Shootout
Denver and Notre Dame face-off in the Sixth Annual Pacific Coast Shootout on March 9
Two of the nation's top lacrosse programs return to Southern California to showcase one of the game's biggest rivalries in the Sixth Annual Pacific Coast Shootout. Denver and Notre Dame will square off on Saturday, March 9 at 7:00 PM (PST) at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, CA.
"We are excited to be back in the Pacific Coast Shootout for the third time," commented Notre Dame head coach Kevin Corrigan. "This event provides our student-athletes with one of the great experiences in lacrosse - the rare opportunity to play a top opponent, in a great venue with a sellout crowd, while enjoying Southern California and helping to spread the game. I look forward to the day when there will be top D1 lacrosse games being played all over the West Coast, in the meantime, there is the Pacific Coast Shootout."
This year's appearance in the Shootout will mark Denver's second and Notre Dame's third time playing in Orange County. The Pioneers and Irish met in 2014 in the event's inaugural game, where Denver beat Notre Dame 10-7. Notre Dame appeared again in the 2016 Shootout, beating Maryland 9-4.
“We are thrilled to return to the Pacific Coast Shootout in 2019," added Denver head coach Bill Tierney. "It is the premier event on the West Coast and playing against such a great opponent as Notre Dame makes it that much more exciting. We will have at least 10 California players on our roster next spring and having them be a part of such a great exhibition of Division I Lacrosse in their home state will mean so much to them. California is fertile recruiting grounds for the University of Denver, so this will also provide an amazing opportunity for future Pioneers to see us in person.”
The Notre Dame-Denver series is among the most competitive, closely contested rivalries in all of college lacrosse. In addition to their reguslar season battles, the Irish and Pioneers have met three times in the past four years in May in the NCAA tournament.
