Local duo produce two big D-1 upsets

Former Orange County All-Americans Keasey & Ortlieb score big wins for Yale and Holy Cross
Former Corona del Mar (Newport Beach, CA) All-Americans Michael Keasey (Midfield/2012) and Michael Ortlieb (Goalie/2012) led their teams to major upsets in college lacrosse on Saturday.

Keasey and Yale Defeat Maryland 10-6
Keasey, a junior midfielder at Yale, helped the 14th ranked Bulldogs (2-0) defeat the 8th ranked Maryland Terrapins (1-1) 10-6 in New Haven. The win was Yale's first against Maryland since 1925. Keasey posted a key third quarter goal to put the Bulldogs up 8-6 and finished the day with one goal and two assists.

A key going into the non-conference game was winning the faceoff against the Terps' All-American Charlie Raffa (Syosset, N.Y.). Both Conor Mackie (Glen Rock, N.J.) and Jonathan Reese (West Islip, N.Y.) did their part at the X, winning 72% (13-for-18) of the draws against Raffa, Jon Garino, Jr. (Newton Square, Pa.) and Will Bonaparte (Ridgefield, Conn.). The pair went a perfect eight-for-eight in the second half.

Ortlieb leads Crusaders to 13-12 win at #8 Loyola
Michael Ortlieb, a junior goalie at Holy Cross, recorded 13 saves, including one with just 2 seconds remaining in the game to preserve the victory for the Crusaders. The win was Holy Cross' first ever win versus an nationally ranked opponent. The Crusaders are also the first team to defeat Loyola in Patriot League action as the Greyhounds went 8-0 in their inaugural Patriot League season last year. Loyola also won the 2012 NCAA national championship.

Holy Cross' 2-0 record to start the season is its best since going 2-0 to begin the 2008 season. This is the Crusaders' first 1-0 start in the Patriot League since the 2010 season.
